MUW is researching the future

Since 2013, we have been carrying out research projects at state, federal and EU level with well-known partners. We always act as a research-oriented industrial partner. We develop test benches, produce prototypes and construct experimental reactors, such as power-to-X technologies for energy and climate change. Among our research partners are Fraunhofer IKTS in Hermsdorf, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Meyer Werft and Hapag-Lloyd, with whom we are working in a sustainable and successful manner.

The HyMethShip project combines a membrane reactor from MUW, which possesses systems for separation and storage of CO2 or methanol, with a hydrogen combustion engine to form an innovative overall system. Hydrogen is produced on board the ship through methanol reforming, and is burned in the ship's propulsion system, producing virtually no CO2 emissions.

As part of the project, MUW and Fraunhofer IKTS are working together to develop a reactor prototype. This prototype will be equipped with a ceramic membrane, so that it can investigate the influence of different parameter variations on the methanation of a CO2/H2 mixture.

In cooperation with Fraunhofer IKTS, we are researching the expansion of Power-to-X technologies. Using the idea of storing and recovering energy from regenerative sources in the form of high-energy chemical products, we are developing reactors for the use of catalytically-coated ceramic membranes.
